A friend has one of those 30" EV's in large inf baf. It's driven by its own pro pwr amp/ electronic x'over.

It has unique authority and ease reproducing the lowest organ pedal notes - very impressive. Its subsonic (16hz) resonance and large cone area make a world of difference.

A must have for serious organ reproduction - in fact that's what EV had in mind for these.

Actually could see it working well for an organ.

Still, I think a proper horn system with it's faster attack could beat it though.

But you know the saying regarding opinions....

Yes, they're like speakers. Everyone has at least two!

The 2x18" per side rig we had in Dallas was killer for pipe organ. They, too, had a rise at 16Hz.

I really like good bass in my music nowadays. 16 hz plenty low, it is that rumbling kinda tone.That you feel but can't quite hear.

It's hard for me to imagine any woofer doing justice reproducing the true bowel-rattling of a real pipe organ. That's one of those "you had to be there" kinda things.

It's not written into any music I know of, nor have I ever experienced it, but a real organ with a 64' stopped pipe can actually produce a 2Hz beat harmonic (with zero rolloff) when the 64' and another (can't remember which) stopped pipe are combined.

I've never experienced a 64' pipe stopped or open, but i have felt properly winded 32' pedal bombard pipes. It's something a person with any level of audio interest doesn't soon forget, and for some is probably the point at which a lifelong quest to reproduce what they've heard will begin.

I think the old Joe Louis Arena in Chicago had a mean pipe organ 50 years old I don't know if they moved it to the new arena.

The Joe is in Detroit...... Home of the Red Wings. The Chicago Arena is what you're thinking of...... according to Wikipedia...... The console of the Barton organ now resides in the Phil Maloof residence in Las Vegas, Nevada.
